Vanessa Komisar is a licensed clinical social worker who specializes in working with adults and adolescents struggling with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, trauma, mood disorders and personality disorders. With post-graduate training in psychodynamic psychotherapy and other evidence-based therapies, she uses a collaborative and empathic approach to assist in the process of self-discovery and change.

Vanessa was born and raised in New York City, received a B.A. in psychology from Syracuse University and an M.S.W from Hunter College Silberman School of Social Work. She completed her clinical internship at Mount Sinai Hospital, a fellowship in psychoanalysis at the Institute for Psychoanalytic Education (IPE), affiliated with NYU Langone Hospital, and her post-graduate psychodynamic training at New York Psychoanalytic Society and Institute (NYPSI). Vanessa also trained at Columbia University’s Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research in the evidence-based modality of Transference Focused Psychotherapy and will continue to pursue her interest in psychoanalysis when she returns to NYPSI, Fall 2021 to complete a fellowship in psychoanalysis.

Vanessa believes that treatment is not one-size-fits all and the validation of ones’ experiences, through the process of being seen and being heard are critical components of her work in helping a person realize their potential. Her priority with her clients is to provide non-judgmental, compassionate, thoughtful, quality-care, with a broader level of effort centering on de-stigmatizing mental health and offering a feminist lens to female issues.
